Apolitical, the peer-to-peer learning platform for government, just announced its list of the 100 Most Influential People in Gender Policy 2019.

2019 has been a crucial year in the battle for gender equality and, with over 9,000 nominations, we anticipate that this year’s list will be the best yet. There will also be a press conference on the list at this year’s Women Deliver conference in Vancouver from 3-6 June 2019.

The list celebrates politicians, civil servants, academics and activists driving change all around the world. It both recognises high-profile icons, and shines a light on the unsung heroes whose work is indispensable in creating a fairer world for everyone.

On the list, you’ll find remarkable people including:

  • Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka — director of UN Women and founder of the HeforShe campaign
  • Marlene Schiappa — France’s secretary of equality between women and men
  • Denis Mukwege —  Nobel peace laureate widely considered the world’s leading specialist in treating victims of wartime sexual violence
  • Melinda Gates — co-chair of the Gates Foundation and vocal advocate for access to contraception
  • Michelle Obama — founder of the Girls Opportunity Alliance and powerful role model for women and girls
  • Maryam Monsef — minister for women and gender equality in Canada
  • Ruth Bader-Ginsburg — associate justice of the US Supreme Court and renowned defender of women’s rights

It’s time to showcase the inspirational people who are pioneering change and shaping gender policy around the globe,’ says Apolitical Executive Chairman Lisa Witter. ‘We hope that this list will highlight the people who are committed to making the world a better place for everyone.
