A one-way ticket to Australia was the beginning of a new journey for an Austrian couple. It also led to an award-winning drone video.

Raphael Faschang and his girlfriend, Jacky, bought their tickets to Australia to “take a break” from their usual lives. Knowing little about filmmaking, they put together a project called “30 Days in Australia” that took home this week’s top prize in the AirVuz Drone Video of the Week contest.

The video, shot on a DJI Mavic Pro and an iPhone, chronicled the couple’s journey along the east coast of Australia. The drone footage features the country’s coastline, waterfalls, cityscapes, sand dunes and more. Faschang said the couple tried to make the most out of what they had — a consumer drone and a smartphone — to put this film together.

Faschang’s video was one of five nominees in the weekly video contest, which awards $1,000 in cash each week on AirVuz.com. As the weekly winner, “30 Days in Australia” is automatically entered into AirVuz’s Drone Video of the Month contest.

The couple’s video is now part of the curated collection of drone videos of Australia, which is one of the most popular country collections on AirVuz.  Among other content, the Australia collection includes the most-viewed video on AirVuz.com.  In “Byron Bay,”  which now has more than 1.2 million views, filmmaker Jaxon Roberts filmed model Sally Mustang in scenic Eastern Australia.

The Drone Video of the Week contest follows the success of the inaugural AirVuz Drone Video Awards, which selected the best drone videos and photos of 2017. Voters chose winners in 13 categories from a total of more than 33,000 videos.
