These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, longevity in the field, other affiliations and contributions to their communities.  All honorees will be invited to attend the IAOTP’s annual award gala at the end of this year for a night to honor their achievements.

With almost 60 years of experience in the healthcare field, Dr. Leon has certainly proved himself as an accomplished professional and leader not only in medicine but also in higher education.  His impressive career began in 1957 after receiving his medical degree for the University of Wisconsin Medical School.  He then went on to complete his internship in 1958 at Henry Ford Hospital, and his residency in 1960 at the Lahey Clinic.  While finishing school and establishing his career in medicine, Dr. Leon served the country as Medical officer and Cardiologist, US Army Reserve from 1961-1967 in Europe and Walter Reed Army Medical Center; obtaining the highest rank of Colonel MC.  Colonel Leon retired from the army reserve after 38 years of service in 1991 following his last tour of the active duty during Desert Shield.  From 1973-1991, Dr. Leon has held the position of Chief Cardiologist in the University of Minnesota's Lipid Research and Heart Disease Prevention Clinic.
