Gigalight Launches 40G QSFP+ ER4 Transceiver with High-Speed APD Packaging Technology to Fill the Gap in the Telecom Market

Gigalight has successfully launched 40G QSFP+ ER4 40km optical transceivers that dependent on the company’s high-speed APD packaging technology platform, filling the gap in 40G ultra-long-distance transmission in the telecom market.

40G is not outdated. In fact, 40G products have not been fully developed in the optical communications industry. As the industry migrated from 40G to 100G, a number of 40G products that have been defined by the industry are still in a vacant state, of which 40G QSFP+ ER4 bears the brunt. The key task of overcoming the 40G ultra-long-distance (40km) module is to create a 40G APD. Due to limited demand and some technical constraints, the market has not had 40G QSFP+ ER4 modules that meet carrier-grade standards.

The Gigalight 40G QSFP+ ER4 40km optical transceiver has filled this market gap. It adopts Gigalight’s self-developed core optical components—40G ER4 TOSA and 40G ER4 ROSA (APD). The module supports OTU3 rate, the typical power consumption at full temperature range is less than 3W, and the sensitivity is up to -22dBm at the error-free transmission. In terms of reliability, the Gigalight 40G QSFP+ ER4 module has passed the reliability test of 2000 hours in a double 85 high temperature and high humidity environment. The product is expected to be officially launched in July with a sample price of 650 US dollars.

Compared with traditional chip technology, the APD chip technology is mainly applied to optical transmission systems with distances more than 40km and the level of package coupling requirements is extremely high. With its own technological advantages, Gigalight has developed a high-efficiency and high-yield automated package coupling process, built a mature automation platform, and fully capable of mass production of the device. In addition, the Gigalight 40G QSFP+ ER4 optical modules support customized requirements and are able to respond to and deliver high volume production requirements in a timely manner.
