Wendy J. Buckley, President & Founder of Specialty Transportation and Regulatory Services (STARS), was selected as “Top Professional of the Year in Environmental Services” for 2016 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP)!
While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself, only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, longevity in the field, other affiliations and contributions to their communities. All honorees are invited to attend the IAOTP’s annual award gala at the end of this year for a night to honor their achievements.
With over 19 years of professional experience in the hazardous material industry, Wendy has certainly proved herself as an accomplished professional and expert in the field. Before founding STARS, Wendy held impressive positions with many different companies. She first started as a volunteer firefighter for both Virginia and Maryland for 10 years. She then accepted a job with the Federal Railroad Administration as a trainee hazmat safety inspector and for the State of New Jersey as a journeyman hazmat inspector. She went on to work for Amtrak’s Inspector General as an investigator and served as an instructor for a premier hazardous materials training firm. She eventually took a job as the sole hazmat specialist for North American Regulatory Affairs with a global laboratory supply distributor. It was with her knowledge and experience that she decided to open her own consulting company STARS. With STARS her key responsibilities include; ensuring that various hazardous materials are safely transported around the United States and Canada. Wendy started this company with one goal in mind. She wanted to help companies develop cost effective ways to comply with both state and federal regulations in a safe and efficient manner.
Wendy has travelled nationally to attend conferences, seminars and has been invited to speak on numerous occasions on topics related to the transportation and management of hazardous materials. She gave speeches to organizations such as the National Industrial Transportation League (NITL), Bureau of Explosives (BOE/AAR), Dangerous Goods Advisory Council (DGAC) and Dangerous Goods Symposium (DGS – formerly DGIS) by LabelMaster.
Wendy has been recognized worldwide and she has received numerous awards for her outstanding leadership and commitment to the profession. In 2014 she was named “Woman of the Year” by the National Association of Professional Women (NAPW), was named “Pinnacle Professional of the Year with the National Association of Distinguished Professionals (NADP) and recognized by Continental Who’s Who. Wendy has also been featured in numerous publications, such as ICE Magazine, featured in Women of Distinction Magazine and named a Delegate with IWLA for her Outstanding Leadership. Wendy has multiple degrees from several private and public Universities and published Professional Perspective Article, "Boxes and Bottles and Jars, Oh My!", which appeared in Packaging World Magazine (November of 2013) and “Rail Safety and Regulatory Perspective”, Focal Pointes Magazine (May 2014).
Looking back, Wendy attributes her success to her work ethic, experience, perseverance and passion for what she does. For the future she aspires to continue to grow her business, grow as a professional and to continue to make a difference in the world.
