John Genovese selected as Top Attorney of the Year by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP)

John H. Genovese, Attorney and Shareholder of Genovese Joblove & Battista, was selected as Top Attorney of the Year for 2018 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) for his outstanding leadership and commitment to the legal profession. 

While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself, only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. With almost 4 decades of professional experience as a practicing attorney, John Genovese has certainly proven himself as an accomplished professional and expert in not only Bankruptcy and Insolvency but also in Complex Litigation, and Commercial Litigation. In the Enron Case, where he acted as co-counsel for the class action shareholders/note holders in the Chapter 11 proceeding and related matters, which resulted in settlements, in excess of $7.2 billion, the nation’s largest securities class action recovery, John Genovese has been very exciting to watch and has become a household name.  Mr. Genovese recently acted as a special litigation counsel to the Chapter 11 Trustee of Rothstein Rosenfeldt Adler, PA, reported to be the fourth largest Ponzi scheme ever in bankruptcy, settling litigation matters for in excess of $100 million. John’s areas of practice include reorganization and insolvency, troubled loan workouts, bankruptcy litigation in bankruptcy and US District Courts, insurance insolvencies, and other complex commercial litigation.

Mr. Genovese served as law clerk to former Chief Judge Norman C. Roettger, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, from 1979-81. He is a member of The Florida Bar and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida, United States Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. In 1979, Genovese earned his juris doctor, with distinction, from Ohio Northern University, where he was vice president of the Student Bar Association, Best Oral Advocate and a member of the National Moot Court Team. He earned his bachelor of science in business, magna cum laude, from Siena College, in 1976. In 2011, he received the Professor Joseph A. Buff Award for Career Achievement from Siena College. In 2014, he received an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree from Ohio Northern University for professional achievement and support of veterans. Genovese also served in the U.S. Army. The President of IAOTP, Stephanie Cirami stated, “choosing Mr. Genovese for this honor was an easy decision for our panel to make.  His list of awards, accolades’ and accomplishments are beyond impressive, he is brilliant at what he does and we felt John would make an amazing asset to our organization.  We hope to spend time with him at the gala, and know we will be seeing more amazing accomplishments from this man. 

Throughout his illustrious career, John Genovese has been active in his community and recognized worldwide for his outstanding leadership and commitment to the legal profession. He has received many awards, accolades’ and has been featured in numerous publications and magazines such as Top 100 Lawyers, on the cover of Attorney at Law, Worldwide Registry, and he is being considered for a feature article in TIP (Top Industry Professionals) Magazine.  For 2018, he was selected as Top Attorney of the Year by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) and is also being considered for a Business Leader Award and Lifetime Achievement Award.  He has received an AV rating by Martindale-Hubbell, listed in each edition of Woodward/White’s “The Best Lawyers in America: since 1989, and has been named to the Legal Media Group’s guide to the “World’s Leading Insolvency and Restructuring Lawyers.” John has also been recognized as one of Florida’s top lawyers by Florida Trend, South Florida Legal Guide, and Florida Super Lawyers.  Genovese is ranked as a “band 1” Florida bankruptcy attorney in Chambers & Partners USA, which has described him as a “formidably skilled individual,” and “tough as nails when fighting to get a solution.”

Aside from his successful career, Mr. Genovese is also a sought after lecturer, speaker and published author.  He co-authored “Rash Ruling Should Not Affect Chapter 11 Valuations” and “Breakout the D&O Policy,” in the National Law Journal.  Mr. Genovese was a founding director and serves on the Board of Directors of the Florida Fiduciary Forum.  He has been named as a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America and he is active with the University of Miami School of Law, Florida International University, Ohio Northern University and Siena College in supporting military veterans.

Looking back, Mr. Genovese attributes his success to his experience, mentors he has had along the way and staying passionate in all his endeavors.  John says he has been blessed, he loves doing what he is doing, and feels this is just the beginning.  For the future, Mr. Genovese will continue to seek justice for his clients and continue making a difference in people’s lives anyway that he can.
