BERMUDA RUN, NC - 01/18/2018 (PRESS RELEASE JET)

Twin City Youth Soccer Association(TCYSA) will soon be offering more events and league play at BB&T Sports Park in North Carolina with the help of Hellas Construction’s Matrix Real MTM Turf. Four natural grass fields have been replaced with synthetic turf to allow more flexibility in scheduling at the facility. BB&T Sports Park is one of only two facilities in a six-county region with artificial turf fields.

"Twin City is excited about the future growth of our club with the addition of these Hellas synthetic turf fields,” said Scott Wollaston, executive director of TCYSA. “We are grateful to Landmark Builders and Hellas Construction for their collaboration on this project. We have been hosting 12 to 15 tournaments a year, along with other activities, using the fields 30 to 35 weekends a year. With the addition of these four high-quality turf fields, we hope to be hosting tournaments and events close to 50 weekends a year.”

"Normally we have to shut down for four months out of the year. That's two months in the summer to allow the grass to grow and two months in the winter to protect the grass from damage. With the addition of Hellas turf, we have the opportunity to still host events and tournaments during those months while letting the grass fields rest,” said Wollaston.

Hellas Chief Operating Officer Frank Petrini said, “It’s an honor to be working with such a great club that has produced many outstanding athletes and is the home to several top collegiate and professional soccer players. We look forward to watching TCYSA grow and helping to make BB&T Sports Park a showcase venue. We thank the TCYSA board, Scott Wollaston, and Landmark Builder’s Jason Whitener and Terry Cowart for partnering with us on this great project for youth athletics.”

The TCYSA selected the Matrix Real M Turf manufactured and installed by Hellas. It has an "M" shaped monofilament fiber made from high-quality, durable materials that provide a soft and strong athletic field with the look and feel of natural grass. The artificial turf is designed with an emphasis on soccer, working unilaterally with all sports, offering perfect ball roll and playability. The Matrix Real M turf system requires less maintenance than natural grass and allows more practices and games to be played as scheduled, even after inclement weather.

Wollaston said, “We are estimating this will increase our current economic impact by about $8 million to $10 million per year in the area. Businesses are going to benefit from the additional traffic generated from more tournaments and events.”

The original Twin City Youth Soccer Association was founded in 1979 to serve the Triad Community. The pending name change to Twin City Sports Association reflects plans to expand the offerings of the organization to include training and competition for lacrosse, Ultimate Frisbee, cross country and more. The complex naming rights contract with BB&T was just renewed for another 10 years.

“Sports can teach children more than just how to win,” Wollaston said. “Sports can teach kids how to pick themselves up after a struggle and keep going. Our vision is to impact the community in a positive way through sports and it’s great to see how much the families and the communities are behind what we are doing.”
